Hey prolly wrong thing to post since we all tend to work on xbox 360s :),, I have one ps3 that I reflowed and still has ylod. I can boot into the recovery menu but thats it,, sometimes get it to the ps3 dashboard but then will cut off to ylod. Anyone have any ideas? First one I had so far not run for me,, cant update in the recoery menu either and if I try to update it asks for 3.00 or later in the recovery menu,, wonder if the update killed it.

I would tend to say the update killed it then if you reflowed it already without any noticable improvements...

unless you have something important on the hdd, wipe the partition info, then reinsert the hdd. It will tell you update data not found and tell you the version its looking for. Put that version on a thumb drive, let it full format the drive (loooooooong) then try to update itself. Then double-check by doing network update if you get it to fully boot.

I think your ylod is unrelated. shim the dies with .75 or 1 mm aluminum, drown them in paste, keep an eve on the exhaust temp. Make sure all thermal pads are in place.

Ok where would I get the aluminum shims at? I tried our local hardware stores and its nothing they carry, Do I take the metal plates off the cpu and gpu chips of the ps3. I have formatted the hard drive a few times and it is looking for the 3.00 update I have that on a usb stick,, tried with the latest game to and nothing.

You said that you reflowed the system... Did you take the metal plates off of the CPU's when you did that? I've never run into a PS3 with YLOD that wasn't fixed by reflowing the CPU's and applying new thermal compound. As far as I know YLOD isn't related to a software or firmware problem. I've had RLOD that was from an update, but never yellow.

Hmmm.

Is there any proper website related to PS3 repair yet?
Otherwise it would maybe make sense to set something like that up ps3-experts.com or so? :P
