Just looking for some advice on E74, My xbox as suffered from this 4 times now, I payed to get it fixed the first time then figured i could do it myself the last two times and everything was good, each time its been fixed its lasted around 6-9 months using the X-clamp fix, however this time i cant seem to fix it i'v tried twice but no joy, I'm still getting E74 any advice would be appreciated.

may b try a low temp oven bake(150*f for 2-6 hours)this removes any flex,and moister the mobo may have,thn try hybrid,if not thn most likelly will need a reflow

Thank for your reply, this brings me to my next question i'v been looking into rework stations but not sure which to go for, any ideas? also i cant seem to find many suppliers in the uk. Do you know of any?

Check to see if the solder connections underneath the power supply to the DVD drive are present and make sure there giving power, if this doesnt solve it you can try reflowing your southbridge.

A good way to reflow if you dont own a reflow station is to try a oven reflow and reflow the hana chip, Southbridge (if alll else has failed on fixing your dvd drive power problem) you can get tuts of the real xboxexperts site in the tutorials section on methords of reflowing

If you're just wanting to fix your console and not fix a lot of them, then I wouldn't recommend investing in a rework station. They can be very expensive. Take a look at the tutorial section at XboxExperts.com and look into Oven Reflowing. This can be very effective. I would also recommend using Flux for the Reflow. It will make your solder joints very strong and make them last longer. Then make sure that you apply a hibrid X-Clamp repair. That will keep the problem from coming back.

well thats the thing m8, iv been collecting broken 1's from friends and i'v got 6 now with my own just breaking, i was'nt in no rush to fix them because i had 2 working 1's but now i dont I'v been browsing XE forums for some time now and was going to join up and ask all of your thoughts on rework stations, And your error-code database is wicked nice job to whoever made that

I recently did a oven bake, Then a oven reflow with flux, This is essential. Then lastly a Home-made applied hybrid. From this i'm getting Excellent results, The error before was E 74 (GPU RELATED) and this is usually a pain to fix because it usually comes back from 1-5 hours of play. but ive had it on all day being played on gears and its not come back.

What you get depends on how much you want to spend of course, the Aoyue 968 is quite popular because it offers many functions still at a comparatively low price yet for the lead-series stations you often have to adjust the heating element.
Better would be the 2738 or 2702 those are a little more advanced but therefore also cost about 160GBP already...
