when i take out the thin piece the x clips holds in a reset the unit it goes back to working.What kind of glue do you put between the thin piece the x clip hold in and the board?

if we are reading this correctly, there should not be any "glue" between the x-clamp and board... the x-clamps attach to the heatsink pegs (if you keep the original x-clamp hardware in your setup) and there should be only thermal paste on the shiny die portion of the CPU/GPU
the amount of thermal paste = HALF THE SIZE OF A GRAIN OF RICE hope this helps
